The Path to Everywhere

Written and photographed by Ursula Jorch

Here’s something I’ve realized in my journey: little steps in the direction of where you want to go in your life are enough to get you there.

They might not have the excitement of the grand gesture, the fell swoop, or the big action. They might not be as momentarily thrilling. But they do make up in effectiveness what they lack in drama.

We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to take big leaps.

We read about people whose lives were instantly transformed when a huge realization struck them on their way to Walmart, or when a beam of light that came down from the heavens while doing the laundry.

We can even use spirituality to up the pressure, saying that if we are on the right path, in the flow, then the energy of the universe will pull us forward in leaps and bounds.

We sometimes want to be one of those people who is inexorably drawn forward to our true destiny by some outside force.

The truth is, the only force that is going to move things in your life is you. Even the universe needs a little help!

We need to first move, with small acts of faith, tiny steps in the direction of where we want to go. Those little steps have a ripple effect that we cannot know when we take them.

This is the best news ever!

Think about it.

We get to determine whether we move forward or not.

We get to say, YES!, to whatever is calling us.

We get to re-decide, rededicate, and realign ourselves to our path, every day, every minute, with each choice to take a little step.

How awesome is that?

It’s a beautiful system. Try it!

Go ahead. Take the next little step.

  2. I’m a huge proponent of the baby steps method, so I’m thrilled to see this post. And you worded it so beautifully!

Whether it’s growing a business, improving a relationship or losing weight, putting one step in front of the other always seems to yield incredible results.

The trick, of course, is staying motivated. Posts like this one really help in that regard.
